Audiovisual production at national level
is governed by industrial agreements. These agreements are undepinned
by statutes such as copyright and labour laws, but they are specific
to the parameters and demands of film and TV production.
From a producer’s perspective, agreements and standard contracts
are a constantly evolving process. The expectations of talent and technicians’ unions
change with the times and the evolution of media technologies call
for frequent adjustments, renegotiations and rewrites.
At a time when the market for production location is rapidly turning
global, when studios and independent alike choose to look to save costs
by looking around the world for the best combination of facilities,
crews and locations, the need for an exchange of information between
producers on industrial relations issues has never been more pronounced.
Over time, the FIAPF website will offer a unique comparative resource
on production contracts, relevant to both producers and researchers
in the field.
